The surgery is approved by the Severn Deanery school of general practice as a training practice to provide specialist training to doctors who wish to become GPs (GP trainees). It is also accredited by Bristol University to teach medical students.
GP trainees are all fully qualified doctors who have already worked for two or more years as a hospital doctor. All patients can choose whether or not they wish to see the trainee, but can be assured that their work is closely supervised by the senior doctors in the practice who will occasionally sit in with the trainee. Trainees will also occasionally ask a patient's permission to record a video of their consultation. Patients have every right to request that the video is not used, and this will not affect their subsequent care in any way. Medical Students are occasionally attached to the practice for a period of a few weeks. Patients may be asked if they would be happy to talk to a medical student prior to seeing their doctor. This experience is immensely valuable for training our future doctors, and we very much appreciate the support that patients give to our students. If however, any patient prefers not to talk to a medical student, then that is perfectly acceptable and will not affect their subsequent care in any way.
