Winter Newsletter, 2011/ 12
So far this winter we have escaped the worst of the weather, and that impacts not only on you and I, but also on the team at the surgery who will inevitably see patients’ needs increase, particularly amongst the most vulnerable, during prolonged inclement weather. I mention this because you might be sitting in the Surgery Waiting Room reading this and wondering why the Clinician you are waiting to see is running late - and winter weather might just be a reason why a patient before you took a little longer than the standard 10 minute appointment time. If you know you are likely to need longer than 10 minutes with the doctor or nurse, it’s helpful to let the receptionist know when you make your appointment.
Flu Clinics
During the recent ‘Flu Clinics’, our Group volunteered to administer the process by helping patients prepare to see the nurse. This was the second year the volunteers supported the surgery and everyone agreed that the procedure this year was an improvement in terms of getting people to the right person at the right time. The clinics are a quick and slick operation when they work well, and the surgery dealt with some 1200 patients. We have thought of something to help us be even smarter next year, so look out for colour coding on the document from the receptionist!
Patient Questionnaire
The Clinics were an ideal opportunity to ask patients to complete a short questionnaire whilst they sat in the waiting room for the recommended few minutes following the inoculation. We will have some action points as a result of your input, but I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to those of you who have contributed in recent months. We now have questionnaire responses reflecting all sections of the patient community, which is so important to us in trying to offer those services which matter to you the patient. Whilst we can’t promise to offer everyone their preferred choice (e.g. your musical taste whilst waiting in to see the doctor might not be the same as others!) On the really important things though, we seem to have a broad consensus of views, and we will be working through them with the surgery team in 2012 and beyond. Thanks to those of you who have commented on the impending refurbishment programme at the surgery, and I’m delighted to report input was invited from adults and school children so everyone’s ideas and impressions are considered. The Surgery team asks for your understanding during the refurbishment programme which will be starting in the new year.
Getting involved
We recently welcomed Mrs. Jeanette Keetch to our group, and we have others indicating their interest as group members or as ‘Friends’ of the surgery. If you want to get involved, whether or not you can commit to meetings at the surgery, please let me know, or contact Pat Lodge at the Surgery. Our good wishes for a healthy and happy 2012!
